Քրիստոս յառեաւ ի մեռելոց! Օրհնեալ է յառութիւնն Քրիստոսի!
“This year, St. Kevork Armenian Apostolic Church in Clackamas, Oregon will be commemorating the 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with two events. On Sunday, April 22nd, (11am) during the Holy Badarak Service, there will be a special Hokehankist (requiem) said to memorialize all who perished. On Tuesday evening, April 24th at 6:30pm there will be a presentation given by Professor Goekjian and Martin Minassian followed by a screening of dacumentary film about the Armenian Genocide.“ (editors note: approximately 1 and 1/2 million Armenians were killed during the Armenian Genocide from 1915 and 1923) Let us all Light a candle this Sunday and offer a prayer for those who died and for the Armenians today. Kyrie eleison, Kyrie eleison, Kyrie eleison.

Thanks!
Everyone has heard of the atrocities that occurred during the Inquisition, during which time some 35,000 give or take were killed. I rarely meet anyone outside of Orthodox circles who has even heard of the 1.5 million Orthodox Christians -most of whom were pacifists- killed during the Armenian Genocide! One cannot learn lessons from what one doesn’t even remember. And even that is just a tiny drop in the historical bucket.

Greetings David, Yes I sadly must agree the Armenian Genocide has been forgotten, or rather hardly ever noticed by the rest of the world. And much more sadly the atrocities that have continued since then to so many different people. To paraphrase Alexander Solzhenitsyn the line of good and evil is drawn thru every man. The Gulag Archipelago showed how even “decent” people can participate in terrible evil. What I find remarkable about the Armenians, is their adamantine adherence to Christ and their Faith over so many centuries. Let us imitate their example. You mentioned the Inquisition, and assume you are lumping the Spanish, Roman, and Cathar in France. Please in fairness remember the “Protestant Inquisitions”, and our own “inquisition against Old Believers.” All of us Sons of Adam have blood on their hands. TY for your thoughts, I appreciate your response to the post and will have to look at the BBC documentary in particular. Asking your prayers. Anthony
