  1. profdemetri says:

Being Americans, our English language is 20 % Greek vocabulary to begin with, and you are already speaking Greek without realizing it — e.g. that most American of words, ‘ baseball.’ This being the case, and considering that the Koine Greek dialect is your Christian foundational language for both the New Testament and Eastern Orthodox Christianity, it is in your best interest to seek The Lord that He may give you grace and patience to become knowledgeable in this tongue — it’s your heritage. – Prof. Demetri

You are right that understanding Greek is a rich blessing and it gives insight into the Bible and the Church Fathers. It is our heritage.

I believe learning Greek or Slavonic is a wonderful undertaking. However not all have the time, patience or inclination to do so.

As an American I thank God we have the services available in English. I pray for one uniform, beautiful translation used by all.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond. our prayers!
