St Innocent’s Academy (FB) and the Goldendale Orthodox Christian Mission Presents:
From the Mission Statement:
“St. Innocent’s Academy is an alternative educational program for young men of high school age and older. It encompasses both those considered “at-risk” and stable young men alike. Many of them have need of secure anchoring as an antidote to modern rootlessness and lack of values.
The purpose of the Academy is to help them know themselves and to act as men created in the image and likeness of God, to foster their sense of human dignity and worth, and to help them develop life skills which will prepare them to take advantage of a wide range of opportunities as adults.” Click here to read more.
St Innocents puts on quite a performance. They have a variety of performers of various musical and dancing capabilities, many of which had no prior involvement in the arts before they attended St Innocents. Their live performances include Celtic, Italian, Russian and other folk songs, music and dancing along with traditional Alaskan dances and music.
The performances may not be of Broadway Caliber but few performances are more heartfelt, joyous and downright fun. This is a great event for children, and the young of heart. Nor is it a preachy event. The performance I attended ended with the audience doing line dances and jigs with the performers, and everyone having a ball! If you can go and support them and bring a friend! ( Remember the nuns of St John the Forerunner are also in Goldendale and Maryhill Museum with their exhibit of Queen Marie of Romania and her Icon Collection are nearby -editor)
