Happy Feast of St John 2013!

“Preaching salvation though slow of speech, thou wast shown to be like a new Moses, leading thy people out of the captivity of the godless, O all-blessed John. Deliver us also from bondage to sin and the invisible foe, that, rejoicing, we may cry out to God: Alleluia!”  Kontakion 6 From the Akathist.  St John Fresco photo by editor-all rights reserved

A Joyous Feast to all!

Our beloved Vladyka St John of Shanghai and San Francisco reposed  on June 19th/July 2nd 1966 in a small office/room where he was staying  at St Nicholas Cathedral in Seattle where he frequently celebrated Divine Services.  He had served the Divine Liturgy that very morning and remained at the Altar for 3 hours after.

Resources:  A longer life of St John.  The awe inspiring Holy Virgin Joy of All Who Sorrow Cathedral in San Francisco,  which was completed under his leadership is also where his Relics are located .  This Cathedral has links for Prayer Requests, Holy Oil, and other useful resources.  It is an active Church with daily services and a weekly Molieben to St John.  The First Church dedicated to St John has a large amount of useful information and links on St John.  Finally the first of a 6 part interview with Subdeacon Gregory Hendry.  Mr Hendry’s  family knew St John from his time in Shanghai thru his time in California; from Ancient Faith Radio’s, The Illlumined Heart.  An  excellent and enlightening interview both of St John and of the Russian diaspora.  Finally Thoughts on His Revesting by an NW Priest. -Editor
