Свято-Георгиевский Храм/St. George Russian Orthodox Church in Salt Lake City, UT (FB) seeks a choir director.    stgeo

“The qualifications include:
1. Availability for major services (the goal is those services listed in the Jordanville “Velikij Sbornik”, i.e. Sundays and Great Feasts, plus those holidays generally served in the Russian Church.)
2. Familiarity with the choral tradition of the Russian Orthodox Church, especially as exemplified by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, in which serving of regular services was not cut off in the mid-twentieth century. This includes knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the proper order of lenten services.
3. Familiarity with a parish situation, where somewhat weak singers and children are to be welcomed into the learning process, with the hope that participation in the choir will deepen their spiritual lives.
4. Desire to make the choir into an enthusiastic body of singers that is a major positive force in the parish.
5. Ability to work together with the rector to chart a course that is beneficial to the parish as a whole, and the singers in particular.
6. Willingness to sing in a mix of Slavonic and English.
Salt Lake City is an excellent place to live for young families, in that much effort is expended by the local population to be welcoming to children. Outdoors types will find a large assortment of adventures more-or-less within city limits. Our parish is building a new church, to be finished in February of 2014 which we strongly desire to follow in the footsteps of the oldest and most venerable parishes in our diocese. We have a large community of small children who are learning their faith. Cost of living is relatively low, in comparison with major metropolitan areas.
Please come and visit. Become acquainted with our unique parish and our future building.”
(This is not a Northwest Parish however I was asked to post it and am happy to do so.  Perhaps someone here in the NW is interested in the position or knows someone who would be?  Please share it appropriately. Editor.)
