“Time for Tavli” at the Parish Hall of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Portland June 11th, 2017

Afterfeast of Pentecost St. Augustine of Canterbury, evangelizer of England (ca. 605) (Celtic & British).  New Hieromartyrs Milan Banjac and Milan Golubovic of Drvar, Serbia (1941-1945).

Dice, stones, inlaid wood and lady luck = The Hellenic-American Cultural Center & Museum (HACCM) (FB) is sponsoring “Time for Tavli”   It looks like a lot of fun I wonder if there will be ouzo and smoking to go with it?  Your friendly editor would enjoy attending but alas its not in the dice.  While I enjoy Tavli it is not my favourite but up there….  (editor)

Bring Your Own Board

Everywhere you go in Greece you can see men, women and children playing the beloved game of Tavli. Developed by the ancient Egyptians 5,000 years ago, the Greeks have taken this board game to heart and made it their own. Known in the west as Backgammon, Tavli is played mostly for fun and sometimes for money.

Join us in playing Tavli, the nations board game of Greece
