O Virgin, Theotokos whose Womb was more spacious than the Heavens; Pray for us.

Dear Readers,

Please note I know many people find this a very difficult subject.  Abortion is considered a right and many women have had them, including sadly in our own congregations.  The truth is it is a killing of an unborn child.  But there is forgiveness in Christ.  We can all repent of our sins.  And when one falls we all fall.  We must support each other with prayer, emotional and material support as needed.  Our culture is deeply fallen and addicted to the passions.  We are all complicit by deed, participation or silence.  We all need have repentance.  This post is not meant as a condemnation of anyone.  I refer you to the epistle of former Metropolitan Jonah of the OCA.  (Anthony editor)  “Thus, however we have sinned, we can be forgiven. Whether we have aborted a child, or consented to it, we can be forgiven. If we bear a child as a single mother, we can be accepted in the community of the Church with love. If we have judged and condemned others, and burn with resentment, we can be freed through repentance. No matter what we have done, no matter how broken we are or how completely we have messed up our lives, we can be healed, forgiven, accepted and loved. And then maybe we can forgive ourselves, and attain to that true freedom.” Excerpt of ArchPastoral Message Metropolitan Jonah 2011

March for Life Unveils its 2019 Theme:

Unique from Day One: Pro-Life is Pro-Science

“Science is behind the Pro-Life Movement.”

-Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life-

“Science is behind the pro-life movement. We see that medical and technological advancements always affirm the pro-life movement, for example, DNA is present at fertilization and no fingerprint on earth, past, present, or future, is the same. We know, too, a baby’s heart beats at just six weeks and we can distinctly observe it ourselves with ultrasound technology,” said Jeanne Mancini. “As science progresses, we see clearly that every life is unique from day one in the womb.”

False Beliefs About Abortion A Sermon based on a Retreat with Frederica Mathewes-Green (Presbyterya and NPR Commentator article found on St George Greek Orthodox Church in St Paul Minnesota website )

¨Every year on the Sunday closest to the anniversary of the Supreme Court?s fateful decision on Roe vs. Wade handed down in 1973, millions of Americans celebrate the sanctity of human life. The reason is well known because the court?s decision established an absolute right of women to seek and procure an abortion, which is the termination of a pregnancy, the taking of the life of the baby in her womb. For the past decade, Orthodox Christians including several bishops and priests, have joined the March for Life on Washington DC that occurs on or near the Roe vs. Wade decision. For over the past ten years, our Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago has designated this Sunday closest to the anniversary to be Sanctity of Life Sunday for all churches throughout our Metropolis/Diocese.¨  Click for full article a very helpful reflection.

A Prayer for the Sanctity of Life

O Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son, Who art in the bosom of the Father, True
God, source of life and immortality, Light of Light, Who came into the world to enlighten
it: Thou wast pleased to be conceived in the womb of the Virgin Mary for the salvation of
our souls by the power of Thine All-Holy Spirit. O Master, Who camest that we might
have life more abundantly, we ask Thee to enlighten the minds and hearts of those
blinded to the truth that life begins at conception and that the unborn in the womb are
already adorned with Thine image and likeness; enable us to guard, cherish, and protect
the lives of all those who are unable to care for themselves. For Thou art the Giver of
Life, bringing each person from non-being into being, sealing each person with divine
and infinite love. Be merciful, O Lord, to those who, through ignorance or willfulness,
affront Thy divine goodness and providence through the evil act of abortion. May they,
and all of us, come to the life of Thy Truth and glorify Thee, the Giver of Life, together
with Thy Father, and Thine All-Holy and Life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto
ages of ages. Amen.”     From the Holy Resurrection January Newsletter 2018.   (Source: Orthodox Church in America)

For Thou hast possessed my reins; O Lord, Thou hast holpen me from my mother’s womb.  I will confess Thee,  for awesomely art Thou wondrous; marvelous are Thy works, and my soul knoweth it right well.

Patriarch Kyrill on Abortion: ¨His Holiness said the way to combat the mass slaughter of the preborn is not only to rebuke abortionists and exhort women not to kill their children but to help women in crisis. The primate told 2,000 attendees to analyze why young women abort. He said we must address the problems that drive women to kill, such as instability, parents’ anger, social pressure, and poverty.¨  Click for full article

My Bone is not hid from Thee, which Thou madest in secret; nor my substance in the nethermost parts in of the earth.

My being while it was still unformed Thine eyes did see, and in Thy book shall all men be written; day by day they are formed, when as yet there be none of them.  Psalm 138: 10- 15

Below is the Documentary the Silent Scream.  It is narrated by the one time Abortionist, and pusher for its legalization Bernard Nathason MD.  Who repented of his former way of life and eventually became a Roman Catholic Christian.  It is not for very young viewers.  But it does belie the lie that the fetus is not just a blob of tissue.
