¨Recognizing Our Shared Humanity with the Homeless¨ and ¨Seattle is Dying¨ How do We Respond?

Passion Week: Great Monday.

New Martyr Gabriel (1942).

To live without Hope is to Cease to live.   Fyodor Dostoevsky

Abbot Tryphon posted a very beautiful and inspiring Post on his blog about the homeless a couple days ago.  ¨Recognizing our shared humanity with the homeless  and a followup ¨Becoming a home grown philanthropist¨

¨I  believe we are all called to realize how dependent we are on Godś grace.   ¨But for the Grace of God there go I¨.  But we are also confronted with real problems in our cities large and small.  The drug problem is a scourge on all of us. The homeless issue and how to respond is something that concerns us all.  I do not claim to know the answers but I offer both Abbot Tryphons posts and the Video Seattle is Dying.  To challenge us all, and give us perhaps some insight to the issues.   I was in Seattle last year and the amount of homeless and the problems associate with it were shocking.   As I said I do not have the answers, or even how to respond at times with the homeless I encounter.  But I do we believe we need to find ways to implement the words of Our Lord in regards to our neighbor as individual persons, as parishes, and as a society.

Deprived of meaningful work, men and women lose their reason for existence; they go stark, raving mad. Fyodor Dostoevsky

If there is no God, everything is permitted. Fyodor Dostoevsky
