Christ is Risen!
Venerable Pachomius the Great, founder of cenobitic monasticism (346).
¨The St. John the Wonderworker Family Camp is a retreat for Orthodox Christians — families and singles — in a beautiful lakeside natural setting a half-hour from Eugene. The Camp offers unique opportunities to Orthodox Christians, especially those throughout the Northwest, for prayer and fellowship together.
The campsite, a Kiwanis camp, offers cabins and full services for participants.¨ (per website)
¨This year’s theme is “The Mysteries of the Church,” and we look forward to delving deeply into this topic during the scheduled talks with our presenters and facilitators: Fr. Seraphim Gascoigne, Fr. Laurent Cleenewerck, Olga Caffee, and Kennen Biornstad–who also serves as our new St. John’s Family Camp Coordinator.
St. John’s Family Camp continues to be organized and managed by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers who work hard to make everything we enjoy about our family camp experience not only possible but worthwhile and nourishing for body, mind, and soul. This year we have some vacancies on our staff that need to be filled promptly in order to have the same robust family camp experience for 2019. We are currently seeking to fill the following staff positions:
- Camp Cook and Kitchen Manager – free tuition plus pay commensurate with experience
- Teacher for Age 6-8 children’s class – free tuition
- Kliros Leader – free tuition
In addition to the staff positions mentioned above, St. John’s Family Camp is looking for individuals to fill the following volunteer roles:
- Dining Hall Assistant
- Nurse’s Aid
- Children’s Program Assistants
If you would like to volunteer for any of these positions or if you know someone who would make a good addition to our team, please contact our coordinator Kennen Biornstad firstname.lastname@example.org in order to receive more information and staff/volunteer application.
We look forward to seeing all of you at Family Camp this year!
Bidding you all good strength as we enter into this last week of Great Lent and on into the Passion, Crucifixion, and Holy Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
May the 2019 St. John’s Family Camp be blessed!
Your Servant in Christ,
St. John’s Family Camp Registrar

What is Family camp?
Family camp is an Orthodox camp for the whole family. It is an opportunity to gather with other Orthodox Christians of the Northwest and pray, learn, play, and fellowship together. There are activities for everyone: for the kids of all ages, talks for the adults, and an opportunity to make new friends and renew old friendships for all: There are fun activities for children, teens, young adults, parents, and grandparents.
Where is family camp?
The Family camp is located near Eugene Oregon at a beautiful lakeside Kiwanis camp.
Why go to family camp?
The St. John the Wonderworker Family Camp offers the opportunity to retreat from the world and set aside time for prayer, fellowship, classes, and other ways of building the Faith for those who may not have the resources or time to travel to a monastery or other place of pilgrimage. World-class speakers and teachers and helpers experienced with working with children contribute to a full experience of the Church in a beautiful wilderness setting. Every day we gather together to pray Matins, Vespers, and Compline and we always have a mid-week Divine Liturgy. We also have a special children’s Vespers, where the kids get a hands-on opportunity to participate in a service.
Family camp is also a fun place for children of all ages. Children, teens and adults will have age appropriate seminars, activities and crafts in an environment that will build their understanding of the Orthodox faith.
